We are interviewing another wonderful blogger today…Mary!
My name is Mary Leigh from Thrift for Today! I’m thankful to be married to my very best friend as of June 30, 2012. I blog about a little of this and a little of that over at Thrift for Today. I’ve been blogging since early in 2012, but did not really start working on the blog until February of 2013. Thrift for Today is a collection of things that we enjoy, learn, and create as we strive to be good stewards of the resources we’ve been given – our money, our time, our home, and our relationships.
Do you have a blogging schedule? or just write as you feel inspired? Share what works for you and why!
I do have a blogging schedule and I’ve found it to be VERY helpful as both an organizational and motivational tool for keeping up with the Thrift for Today. When I first started blogging, I relied almost always on inspiration and simply hit that publish button after every single post and that was it. The problem though is that I’m simply not always “inspired”. I would end up posting everyday for a few days and then go MIA for weeks waiting for inspiration to strike.
Now, I certainly write when I feel inspired, but schedule posts to publish so that the blog stays consistent even when my inspiration doesn’t. (Every now and then there are surprise posts on other days of the week as well, but those are just bonus.)
What is your blogging niche? Do you think it is important for bloggers to keep to one or two topics, or do you think it is okay for one person to cover multiple categories on one blog? Why?
This is an interesting question to me and one that I find myself going back to myself regularly. Is “a little bit of everything” considered a niche? If yes, I pick that one! I really like to write about some of it all. Thrift for Today is a little collection of projects, adventures, tips, and just ideas and things I’m thinking about or smiling about or sometimes even unhappy about. I’m all about finding what fits your own style.
Share a link to your favorite post you’ve ever written. Why is it your favorite?
“On being still” I wrote this one after a really stressful couple of weeks. In hindsight, it seems so silly, but when you’re stressed it seems like those little things are the most important things. And the truth is that they just are not. This post was written after reading the story of Mary and Martha again and being reminded in that that while I was busy about a lot of things, only a few of them mattered, “indeed only one”. It was a real reminder to me to take a step back. To simply be still and to rest in Christ.
It takes me longer to write these posts because they are so close to the things I’m feeling. And even without the great photos or life updates, it’s my favorite one. (And the story about finding the whites in the dryer two weeks later…totally true.)
