Today we’re excited to bring you a wonderful interview from SuzyHomemaker.net
Thanks so much to Blogging On The Side for this opportunity. My name
is Suzy. I have been married to my wonderful hubby for 4 years whom I
affectionately refer to as #1 on my blog. I also have an adorable (I am sure I
am not biased) 2 year old little girl. I am a stay-at-home-mom and I love it! My
blog is suzyhomemaker.net. My background is nutrition, so a lot of what I blog
about is food, especially real food, and ingredients, with a bit of lifestyle “on
the side.”
1. How do you overcome writer’s block?
This has happened to me more in the past than lately. I think one way that I
have overcome this is to write everyday. I usually only post 2-3 times a week,
but I try to write every day. Some things I write may never even end up as a
published post – and that is okay. I consider that writing as practice, which is
important if you are not a “writer”.
I also try to be prepared when inspiration hits. And it usually hits…in the
shower. Honestly, the blog posts I create in my head in the shower are so
eloquent and the sentences are perfect. So now I am prepared to write some of
those thoughts down immediately after I get out. Because, unfortunately, too
many times, I have either forgotten what I wanted to say or even forgot the
perfect topic I wanted to write about.
Wherever you seem to get inspiration, whether it be in the bathroom, driving,
exercising, find a way to capture those thoughts as soon as possible.
2. What is your blogging niche? Do you think it is important for bloggers to
keep to one or two topics, or do you think it is okay for one person to cover
multiple categories on one blog? Why?
My blogging niche is nutrition and real food. Since my Master’s degree is in
nutrition and it is what I have a passion for, it was natural for me to have a blog
about food.
Although, I also blog a bit about other homemaking adventures, like
homemade products and mommying (that’s a verb, right?) probably 80% of
my blog is about food. I think it is important for my readers to know when they
come to my site what the focus is about and what they will learn about. And it
is also helpful for me as a blogger to be focused.
Although in life I have a lot of interests, trying to write about everything would
make for a very convoluted and confused blog without an identity. I think most
bloggers would do best with a couple main themes and maybe some subtopics
instead of trying to include all of their interests.
3. Share a link to your favorite post you’ve ever written. Why is it your
favorite?
I found this question intriguing because I didn’t even know what my favorite
would be. I went back to my blog and reviewed the posts. Although it was a
hard choice to pick one as my favorite, I am going to say that Chocolate from a
farm? about a TV commercial is definitely in my top five.
I like it because I am still writing about my main theme of food and nutrition,
but I was able to bring out my sarcastic side hopefully in a way that people
think is funny and not offending. I admit in the post that I get sucked in to good
advertising as well. So readers know I am not perfect when it comes to eating.
I even think I get a lesson across in that marketing can make anything look
healthy, unprocessed, closer to nature, etc.
If I can create an amusing, fun post that also teaches people something about
