Every week we interview and feature a wonderful blogger just like you! If you are interested in being interviewed and featured one friday email us at onthesideblogging@gmail.com and we can get started!
I’m Kelli and I’ve been blogging for six years- three of those seriously and the others, not so much. My husband and I planted a church in Houston six years ago, specifically reaching the Texas Medical Center area. All of this came about because our first son was born very ill, and we spent lots of time here his first year of life. We now have four kiddos and are learning how to navigate the waters of a big family in a big city!
When I first began seriously blogging, I wrote mostly about good deals and saving money. I soon realized, however, that this wasn’t where my heart was. (at least totally) I wanted to minister to women on a variety of topics- and get to know those women! Thus, my new(er) blog was born: eat.pray.{read} love. I share recipes, my favorite books, things I’ve learned in marriage, the joys and struggles of parenting, and about my faith.
How do I find time to blog?
This one is tricky! When I first began seriously blogging, I became consumed with it, as is VERY easy to do. Literally every spare second I had, I would jump on the computer. I quickly realized this wasn’t realistic- I still had a husband, 3 kids at the time (who were then 6, 4, and 7 months old), and a home to care for! Now, I try to take advantage of early morning hours and nap time. A few times a month, I escape to Panera for several hours to really focus and mark several tasks off my list. (Writing at Panera is also how I finished my first book!)
How do I overcome writer’s block?
Although this doesn’t happen a whole lot to me (there are whole lot of words rattling around in this brain!), it definitely does occur occasionally. I have several ways to overcome it. I always keep a list of post ideas- I’ll peruse that to see if any of them jump out at me. Other times, I use what I’ve been learning in my spiritual walk to write a post. Sometimes, I’ll just read a few other blog posts from other people to get my creative juices flowing. For example, they may post about their favorite books and I’ll think “Oh, that reminds me, I wanted to write about my favorite books, too!”
My favorite blog post is where I share about my struggle with Post-Partum Depression. It’s called The $11 a month that Changed My Life– and I found that many readers identified as well. It’s my second most-read post ever. I was really just able to share my heart on the topic.
(My most popular post ever is “How I Finally Started Making Money Blogging- and You Can, Too!”)
