About Us

Becky’s Blogging Story:
I am a blogger, author of several books, including an Amazon best-selling book, a speaker, and most importantly… a wife and mother.   I started Your Modern Family as a way to share my tips and ideas with friends and it has grown into a 3-million-views a month blog… and I continue to be excited about it!

When I started blogging, I had high hopes of paying for preschool tuition every month.   Before the end of three years, I was earning a six-figure income and my husband had quit his job to stay home and work with me.   I have learned that to be successful in blogging, it takes a lot of self-education, self-discipline, and a love for writing.

I truly love blogging because not only am I able to help people every day through my writing, but I am able to provide our four kids with amazing opportunities.   We have used my blog to travel all around the United States and see so many new places.  I have been able to meet amazing, influential people, like the President of the United States.   It has opened doors for me that I never would have had opened before blogging.

I truly found my passion when I told my old career, as a teacher, and merged it with my new career, as a blogger.  I now help people to reach their blogging goals on a daily basis.   I love helping others succeed and have heard amazing success stories from friends and fellow bloggers, after following my advice.   What a wonderful thing to hear!

Paula’s Blogging Story

I started blogging over a decade ago. Back in the days when blogging was little more than online journaling for your friends and maybe a few random people who might happen upon your site as they explored the internet in the middle of the night.

The blogging world has changed a lot since then, and it has been interesting to keep up with the changes both for the good and bad.

In 2010 I began to realize that there were a lot of bloggers like myself that were making money with their sites. I didn’t quite understand how they were doing it, but our family was in a tough financial situation and I decided to throw myself into try to make it work for me. My in-laws bought me a blog redesign, a year’s worth of (affiliate)hosting, a domain name and a move from blogger to wordpress for Christmas that year and I decided to see what I could do.

My goal for the entirety of 2011 was to make $1,000. I desperately wanted to help us get out of our apartment and into a house and knew that whatever little bit I could contribute would be huge as my husband was already running himself ragged at work. By the end of 2011 I was earning $1,000 or more a month and things kept going up from there. I started attending blogging conferences, and writing books. Becky and I started blogging together to teach other people how to blog and one day I realized my monthly income was higher than my husband’s and I was still a stay at home mom to our two little toddlers!

My blogging income allows my family to travel, to purchase our first home and be well on the way to paying it off (our goal is paid off within 2 years). I tell you these things because when I started blogging I had no idea what was possible. I remember turning down my first offer for a sponsored post worth $100 because I thought it was laughable that a brand would pay that much to work with a blogger. Today, I won’t even consider blogging for just $100. But no one was telling me all those years ago what I could do.

So we want to tell you! That’w why we built this site and why we are open with all of our secrets. Let’s reach our dreams together, it’s so much more fun that way.

The story of how we became blogging friends & started this site:

Becky and I found each other through a link party several years ago. She had just started her blog and I was just starting to consider getting serious about mine. We formed a blogging partnership between our two sites, Your Modern Family and Beauty Through Imperfection. At first it was very informal, but as our blogs and our dreams grew we ended up throwing ourselves fully into helping one another build our two sites.

We would stay up until 1-3am messaging each other, writing and trying to learn better ways to blog.

After 18 months of this we decided that we wanted to help other people grow their sites as well and we started working together to help other bloggers. Over the years that has taken on many shapes. We’ve written books, we do coaching, we email back and forth with bloggers and talk to people in our Facebook group. We’re shooting videos (above), while speaking at conferences (below), working on several blogs together, and doing lots of fun things together… all to help make dreams come true for other bloggers.

Speaking at conference
Blogging has changed both of our lives, and our families lives for the better. It is one of our favorite things to watch it click for our readers and have the privilege of helping make dreams a reality for those that follow this blog and use our resources.

Here’s to you… and your blog!
cheers to you
