I (Paula) met Angela at a blogging conference last fall, and used her ebook entitled 30 Days to Make and Sell a Fabulous Ebook when writing and publishing my own book. I can honestly say that I would not have my book published yet without her help. I am so excited about this course because I know it can help me, and any one else interested in self publishing to reach and exceed our publishing goals!
I interviewed Angela this week about her course so that she could share a little bit more about it and help you decide if it is the right thing for you! One thing that has been so impressive and unique about Angela, her products, books and courses, is the personalized help that she offers. I was in crisis mode unable to figure out a formatting glitch in my own book, so I emailed her about it one Saturday night. She went back and forth with me for over an hour until we figured it out, encouraging me all the way. She treats every client like they are the most important person, working on the most important book in the world. But enough from me, on to the interview with Angela!
I’ve read a lot about your program, but I know many of the readers here have not, can you introduce us to the course in a few sentences?
Sure! I’m so excited about this course because writing a book can be a transforming experience for people when it’s done right, but there are plenty of authors that never see the success they want. In fact, the average self-published author only sells 250 copies of their book. My goal with the course was to walk people through the system I used to sell thousands of copies of my books and usually charge 4 or 5 figures to employ on behalf of clients one-on-one. The course gives people access to everything, including personalized help.
What makes your course unique from the other classes on publishing?
That’s such a good question – there are some amazing courses out there already. What I find is that they tend to focus either on how to be a writer (Like Jeff Goins awesome Tribe Writers), or how to make a million bucks on Kindle. With Achieve Your Publishing Dreams people are equipped to not only select a savvy topic, but how to develop their idea into a real book, produce it professionally, and then share it with the world in a powerful and effective way. Plus they get a full toolkit of handouts, checklists, and other resources to aid them during the entire process.
At what point in their writing career should some one purchase your course? Do potential clients need to have all their book-plans already in order? Or will the course help them figure out exactly what they want to write and how to do it?
If someone is a blogger who is ready to take things to the next level, or owns a business they want to ramp up, this course will help them do that. You don’t have to have a finished manuscript, or even set idea to start this course. I’ve seen the power of books to transform lives, not just financially, but also someone’s blog and career.
Like one of my earlier clients, a girl who says she saw huge growth at her blog through her free book offerings. Prerna of The Mom Writes says, “I have 3 free eBooks that subs get now and a big chunk of them buy the paid eBooks as well. So it’s a total WIN for everyone.. They get to sample and experience my writing and I build a targeted audience base.” In the course I share more of Prerna’s story and you’ll learn how she monetized the free offerings as well so she was never writing unpaid. Brilliant.
Another private client was a business owner who wanted to develop a career speaking to boost his business. We worked together on his book, much of it ghost-written, and within 2 months of publishing his book he landed his first speaking gig. In this case his book was not the ultimate goal, but a stepping stone to additional opportunities that would never have been possible without having that book in place.
What about our readers that have already successfully published ebooks of their own? How can this course help them?
This book can help in a variety of ways. A couple of my students already have ebooks but find that they are having trouble breaking that 250 barrier I mentioned earlier. Their sales are sluggish and they are struggling to spread the word. By implementing some of the techniques and advanced training materials in the course they are able to partner with other opportunities to make their message heard, and connect with readers more deeply – leading to a more engaged audience that is going to buy not only the initial book, but other offerings as well. One thing this course includes that many courses leave out is what to do once you have your book in hand!
Is it a formal class setting? Or does every one work at their own pace?
The course has 6 modules with 5 lessons each. A student could work through the entire course in 30 days, or take 6 weeks to go through the lessons, or pick and choose which elements best serve their current needs. I have emails that go out every 5 days to help bring awareness to specific areas of the course, however the lessons are available instantly when you purchase. The only exception is students who purchase with the payment plan get half the course with their first payment, and the second half of the course after their second payment processes.
Also I have each lesson written out, for those who prefer to read their work. But I also include a video for each lesson as well as a downloadable audio file for those who want to skim the written bits, and listen to the audio lessons on a commute or jog. Students report that they remember more of the material by having it provided in a variety of ways.
We also have a monthly Q&A call that allows students the opportunity to ask specific questions and get really detailed feedback on their immediate project. These are invaluable – usually it’s $100 an hour to hire me to “pick my brain” and students get unlimited access on these calls…I will stay on for two hours if people continue to have questions. So that gives a ton of flexibility for any unusual schedule challenges that students might be facing. I really wants to make this as accessible as possible because I believe SO STRONGLY in what having a book can do for your blog, business, finances, and even just confidence level.
What is the BEST thing about your course? Your absolute favorite part?
The best part of the course are the comments and replies to my student newsletters. When the student emails go out I often get personal responses and I read every. single. one. It’s by far the coolest thing in the world to see someone go from half-an-idea-and-completely- overwhelmed to having a plan and be on their way towards a transformation.
