Your Modern Family Income
(You can see my most popular posts in my About Page by clicking right here.)
So many of you have asked me (on our Facebook Group that you should join!) about how to monetize your blog and how much I make. I haven’t told anyone my income, except a few close friends and family members, until last month. I shared my August income from Your Modern Family.
This post contains affiliate links to the companies that I work with. I hope that this post helps you… I have a nervous stomach sharing it today, but when I open up to you, you can grow your blog & be successful!
IF you have come to this page, let me explain:
I have two blogs.
1- Your Modern Family
2- Blogging on the Side (this one)
I am sharing the income that I make on Your Modern Family (we make a little bit of money on this blog, but we are mostly focused on helping you to learn to blog successfully, with balance.)
I blog about everything from raising kids to DIY ideas. I share recipes and tips on saving money… I have ebooks about Potty Train in a Weekend and You Can Be a Stay at Home Mom on One Income.
Your Modern Family has slowly grown. I have now been blogging for 20 months. I have around 500,000-600,000 page views via Google Analytics every month…

Also- I am a HUGE money-saver. I pretend like this money does not exist and I still shop only on clearance, I still live on my husband’s income, I still only send one child to school to save on preschool tuition.
I also pay expenses. I pay $99 a month for WordPress Hosting (you can get it cheaper!) and I pay weekly for someone to link up my posts to Linky Parties. I also pay for things like business cards, etc…
If you are asking yourself how much time, etc… I put into my blog, you can find all of that info right here: How to get over 1,000,000 visitors to your blog.
PS- My About page has a list to most popular posts on Your Modern Family (my biggest money-makers)
Becky you are doing an amazing job and you are incredibly brave for sharing. I really think this will encourage and inspire so many small bloggers. I would love to keep up with such a frequent posting schedule, but I’m not sure I could do it yet. I’m slow starting to increase my posting frequency to 3 x per week. We are overseas in Japan via a military move, so I know there are some sponsored companies that will not take me. So I need to look into that a bit more. It’s so funny because I’ve been really trying to stay on task with my blogging, but then I see a post like this and realize how many other things I need to do. Before you know it nap time is over! Ha. Honestly, I know how much I put into blogging and I see all you’ve accomplished, it’s so obvious that you are an incredibly hard worker! I wish you all the success in the world.
Lauren
Thank you, Lauren!! That means so much!! haha- I am with you on how the time just seems to get away from you! I am just now getting on (2:00pm) for the day and I have so much to get done… its going to be a long night! 😉 I stay up so late (until 1 or 2 am most nights) and wake up early (between 6:30 & 7) so I have a lot of time to myself during those hours. 🙂 lol.
Oh wow. That is really impressive! And I am getting inspired seeing this! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks!!! I’m glad it was helpful!
You really are an inspiration to us all!
thank you for sharing this!!
You are so sweet- thank you!
Other than your hosting and paying the person to link-up posts, I’d love to know if you have any other expenses.
Thanks so much for sharing!
I pay for little things, like giveaways. I pay my affiliates for selling my ebooks (normally around $100 a month total, I’d say?) I also pay for e-junkie ($5) and pic monkey & a few other little things like that. I spent a lot of money on a good laptop (macbook) & camera. It made blogging SO much easier!!
Way to go, mama! The income is impressive and I love that you are able to save it too! You are one disciplined girl! I’m impressed!
Thanks, Tove!! 🙂
Hi Becky,
That is very impressive! I’ve been following this blog (and your own one, in bits) for the past few months and it’s really great! I’ll be starting my own lifestyle blog soon, in the hope to become successful like you and earn some money as well. In fact, I have carefully organized many of your tips in several folders, so that it’ll be easier for me to plan everything.
Do you know by any chance if all the sites you suggested work with UK bloggers?
Thanks!
Oh wow! I’m sitting here reading this and I’m in awe! Not only about how much you make, but your pageviews too! I’m telling my hubby and he almost did not believe me, lol!
For us, here in South Africa, blogging is almost like a hobby, although I’d love to actually make money from it, even if it just pays for my time. Any tips for international bloggers, opportunities?
Thanks for an honest post, most bloggers are secretive on how much they make. This has been an inspiration for sure! Ok, let me get working now…
I’ve been reading your posts about starting a blog for income for a couple of days. Still reading and re-reading, and hope to follow your examples step-by-step to build one for myself. I’ve been hobby blogging at blogger for years, but seriously want to take the plunge to professional as I’ve been disabled and really want to find a way to make income from my home. Bless you for sharing your knowledge and experience so openly!
Interesting post! I have read your post again and again. I just wanted to improve my blog. Anyway, I already joined your Facebook group, I’m excited to learn more. I hope that you approve my invite in Facebook group soon. Looking forward to read your next month income. Thank you for sharing 🙂
YAY! I just got your email, too. 🙂 I wrote back.
$10,000 in a month from blogging?! That is incredible! And I think it is super smart to just save it. That’s what I’m doing, as much as possible. It’s easy since most just goes to my paypal account. How many sponsored posts does all that money equal? I do several sponsored posts each month as well, but I’m not nearly that high, and I have a lot of pageviews now, which helps with ad income, but I feel like there is still much more I can do. I’m getting there, but I can’t post 7 days a week! I’m happy to get 4 or 5 a week, and that’s with working much more than 4 hours a day! I just don’t think I’m a quick writer. I like to really take my time with them as much as I can.
Thank you! Yes, saving it is the hardest part, but we just live on my husband’s income & pretend that mine doesn’t really exist. 🙂
Good job doing 4-5 posts a week!!
I just started reading your blog. So much great information. What an inspiration! Thank you for sharing! I am taking notes as I read. Success at this point for my blog is to be able to earn anything even a penny! We currently live off my husband’s income as well. But if I could replace his income and more that would be terrific. You have opened my eyes!
Becky, Something I don’t understand is, do you have to use WordPress or is that something you can work up to? Like can you start blogging and then as you can afford WordPress, start using it in your existing blog?
Also, who hosts your blog? I looked at Bubblews and Tumblr and see issues with both of them.
