Did you know that you can get banned from Pinterest because of over-pinning to group boards? Suzy is going to share how she prevents this from happening with a simple organizing trick!
Pinterest is one, if not the most, important traffic-driving site for bloggers. It seems most bloggers I talk to say that Pinterest is the #1 source of traffic by about 50%. One of the best ways to use Pinterest to increase traffic for your blog is to contribute to group boards.
Pinterest group boards are boards where multiple people can pin to. They usually have a larger following than individual boards, which makes them great for getting more people to see your pins.
But keeping track of where you have pinned certain posts can get confusing. The last thing you want is to pin your post on the same group board multiple times and then get banned for spamming. To help keep track, I created a Pinterest spreadsheet to organize all my group boards. I wanted to share it in case others needed some organizational inspiration.
Here is what my spreadsheet looks like:
I put group board names across the top. As you can see I contribute to a lot…34 right now. (although I may need to do some purging).
Although it is hard to see, I sometimes make notations on the boards. For example I have two boards that are “healthy recipes” but one is big, so I note that. I am also a part of another group board where the owner requested that you only pin your own things. So I put 2** so I will remember to only pin from my own blog for that particular board.
When I pin a post to a group board I highlight the square. Some people will put an actual date instead and repin after a certain amount of time. I have not ruled it out, but for now this is better and quicker.
To make it easy to navigate, I always freeze the first column (with the blog post names) and the top row (with the group names). That way as I scroll down my blog post titles, I won’t have to remember which column goes with which group board. It is always on the screen.
Some of you may have an easier or better way to do it. This works for me, but I would love to hear how you stay organized with group boards.

Leigh Anne, I am actually the opposite. I am so not type-A. Which usually ends up in me being very disorganized. Sometimes I wish I was more type A. LOL
That’s definitely what I need to do. I just started with group boards and have struggled with keeping track.
Louise, I would start organizing now. I actually started late and was just winging it for a while and had no system. Now it is actually much easier even though it seems like extra steps.
Ahalogy or other scheduling sites are a good option. (viralwoot is another.) You can schedule your post to go out to all your boards. You do all the scheduling at the same time but they appear at different times but only 1 one on each board.
I love Ahalogy. Unfortunately, they cannot track tell you if you have already pinned your pin to a certain board. I guess I could go through my past pins but I think it would be more difficult to figure out what has been pinned where.
Snap, I record all my pins to group boards on a spread sheet, I really would get in a muddle otherwise.
