We recently posted about how to hit 1 million visitors on your blog and I hope that it gave you some really great tips to grow your blog. Today I wanted to share some topics to get you started. These topics to make a post go viral will assist you if you want to achieve this goal.
Here are some topics to make a post go viral and to help inspire you each month: You can download a GO VIRAL CALENDAR for free here.
- JANUARY- organizing. My organizing posts are bringing in a lot of my 7,000 page views to my blog, every day this month. It is a new year’s resolution for many- getting organized!
Also- football food is big this month, with the super bowl being so close. Party planning, food ideas, etc… are all going to be highly viewed this month. - FEBRUARY: Valentines Day (kids party ideas, dating ideas, dinner recipes for dinner for two). Also weight loss- we are in full swing now that the holidays are over.
- MARCH: St. patricks day ideas. ( My kid craft ideas are a hit for holidays). Spring decor is starting back, so add a few DIY spring things!
- APRIL: EASTER and Gardening. My “How to feed a family with a garden” post was very popular in the springtime last year.
- MAY: SUMMER ideas. Vacation tips or ideas of where to go. Activities to do with your kids over the summer. You want to stay ahead of the game, so you are about a month ahead and this is perfect.
- JUNE: Weddings and Picnics. Both of these topics are big. (With both of them, food ideas are huge. Remember 4th of July is just a month away so start planning for that picnic/party!)
- JULY: School ideas are big now. Organizing for school, shopping for school, etc… Parents are ready to start getting back into the swing of things. They are thinking of back to school shopping.
- AUGUST: Back to school. Daily calendars. Bedtime and morning routine posts, as parents get back into the schedule of a school year.
- SEPTEMBER: foods. I find that comfort foods are huge this month. We are thinking of getting back into our routines and family meals, etc… Post some great family recipes that are easy & comforting. (make the pictures very pin-worthy!) Halloween ideas – share them now, a month early
- OCTOBER: Halloween ideas (party foods are big this month- try to think outside of the box for Halloween party foods). Thanksgiving recipes. Fighting illnesses (colds are coming back & flu season is beginning)
- NOVEMBER: Christmas ideas! My Christmas posts were huge in November. I tried to do one a week, at least.
- DECEMBER: More Christmas (recipes, cookies, gifts, decor…) & start talking about New Years Resolutions.
These topics are just ideas to get the ball rolling. See how they do on your blog. If they do well, spin off of them with a “Part Two” or a series. You can really help to increase your page views and your visitors every month.
What post did you have that went viral (share a link!)? Did you find that your traffic stayed? Did you feel like it went viral when you thought that it wood?

What a great list! No viral posts for me yet, but my free printables are pretty popular. I’m going to keep this list in mind for the rest of the year (goodness knows my house gives me many opportunities to organize!) Thanks for sharing. 🙂
I love printables! I don’t use too many, but I love to visit blogs that have them- they make things so much easier (esp. recipe printables)
These ideas are great! Thanks for the tips. I needed them!
You do such a great job, Alison! 🙂
Great list! You really do have to be thinking ahead to what holidays, etc are coming up as a blogger. I need to make an editorial calendar and work some of this stuff in!
So true (holidays!)
I dont think I really have any posts that have gone viral, but I do have three very successful posts with i think about 1500-2000 page views per post. I think this is a great post with lots of good ideas! Ill have to write them down in my blogging notebook so I can remember these ideas.
One of the posts suddenly got 500 page views in a day because some “popular” blogger pinned it!
That’s awesome!
Very Nice Post.
Love this list! Great tips and looking forward to reading your other posts. I love bloggers helping other bloggers to succeed! Very inspiring, thank you!
Awesome- thanks!
Very popular for me last year was an MLK post. This year, I expanded it, added some affiliate links, created a couple of different companion posts and linked them…traffic is through the roof! It’s great because it helps me and my family to be really invested in learning more about the topic, and I’m able to be a resource to lots of folks! Sharing this post with my blogger group. Thank you!
Awesome advice!! Thanks for that topic!! 🙂
Becky, thanks for such a helpful post! I launched my blog less than a year ago and am having a blast. Thanks so much for sharing what you’ve learned with others!
So great – same here!! 🙂 Thanks for the comment!
These tips are awesome! Thank You. 🙂
I’m not exactly sure how it happened, but one of my posts got nearly 6,000 hits in just a matter of a few days (that’s huge for me!) I did share my link as a comment on a company’s facebook page (because I used a product from their store in the craft). Maybe that’s what helped? No other post has had that kind of traffic though (next closest is around 1,000 views). http://munchkins-and-moms.blogspot.com/2014/02/magnetic-art.html
Wondering if someone pinned one of your images on Pinterest? If they didn’t, do it! It’s a wonderful idea. 😉
These are all great ideas!! Definitely got my brain moving on some things to blog about soon!
Hey there, You’ve done an incredible job.
I’ll certainly digg it and personally suggest to my friends.
I’m confident they will be benefited from this web site.
Thanks for the tips! Very helpful. The holidays are definitely popular.
What an excellent resource! Thank you. I always have heaps of ideas in my head, this helps me categorize/sort them a bit better 🙂

Fantastic ideas. I will put them in practice for my blog. I am a fairly new blogger and need all the ideas I can get. Thanks again for sharing.
Wow, great list! I am doing a calendar for 2015 and it is making all the difference! Can’t wait to jot down some of these ideas for the year!
I haven’t been able to get much traffic outside of my facebook friends & family. My best posts though have been ones that tell funny stories about my family members or when I share lists of things. come check me out!

Try pinterest, too. I get a lot of traffic there.
My first post went viral about a month after I launched… And it was about 2-3 weeks after it was published. A much bigger mommy blogger shared it, and then a week later, an even bigger one shared it again. Each time, there was a huge traffic spike, which subsided over about a week, but always resulted in higher overall page views after (more FB followers, more pinterest followers). Funny part is it was probably the post I spent the least time writing so far – 25 Reasons my Threenager is Having a Meltdown
Awesome! I shared that. 🙂
Oh, I LOVED that post! I shared, too 🙂
I’ve had a few posts do very well, guest posting for others. I’m excited to launch my blog, as I’ve been guest posting (to learn the ropes) for a few months now. Scary Mommy and Money Saving Mom have been so wonderful. I’m excited to launch my website in the next couple of weeks! Thanks for the inspiration, Becky. You are doing a wonderful thing here!
i loved this post, THANKU! In my first month with only 4 posts in ( I know measly

I’m loving your advice. I’m so glad I found you before I’ve launched my blog. You’ve given me so many ideas and increased motivation. Thank you!!!
I would add to that list that for May, June, July, and probably August gardening and food preservation are huge. By food preservation I mean preserving things you grow in your garden. My canning posts, herb drying posts, posts where I’m cooking with things that I have grown in my garden, and things like that have gone crazy this summer.
