The bigger ad gets the clicks … which size adsense ad should I use?

I came across something that I found to be VERY interesting this past week.   As some of you know, I had my page redesigned (with the help of Jornie.com… she can ad widgets anywhere on your page for a fee)  Well, when I was playing around with where I wanted my google ads, I found that the small banner looked so much nicer, but at the end of the day, I had shocking results!   If you are wondering which size adsense ad should I use – this will help!

what size ad should I use
First- a little background on my adsense ad placement:   I only have the google ads at the top if my page and I keep one on my sidebar.  I rarely include them in my post (mostly because I forget about it).   So all of this information to follow is about the google ad that sits above the fold (my “money maker”)- the sidebar ad rarely gets clicks.

Take a look at this.

One June 23rd, I made $28.51 (My average is around $30-$40 a day) – this is the day that I had a Medium Rectangle (300 X 250) on my page, right above my post:

One June 24th, I moved to a banner ad instead:

I liked the look much better, because you could see the content right away, but look at this message from Google Adsense…

which google ad makes the most money?

And I kept it there to see if it would happen again… here is today’s picture:

Now- my page views increased, so my money should have gone up, but it went way down.

So…  I did this (moved ad to header):

and guess what…?
My adsense income is back to normal!

Moral of the story:  You get more bees with honey.    (You get more clicks with the big ad)

Here are some Tips on how to increase your adsense (mine has doubled since writing that post, using these tips)

I don’t know if you can help me but I have always wanted to use Adsense on my blog, unfortunately, I got rejected because my username does not match my blog. I made the email address that I am using now long before I started blogging so it does not match my domain name. And I am also on WP, the one listed is blogspot.com. How do I correct this?

I would make a new email that matches your blog name (& just have it redirect to the address that you want it to go) and then I would re-apply as a new person. Use your new email & your new WP account.

ps- if that doesn’t work, apply to other ones, like burst media or blogher.

Hi Becky, not sure if this is too personal etc but I was wondering about how many pageviews you were getting when making $30 a day from Adsense. Ahh just curious – thanks!
