Two questions that Becky and I get a lot is “how often should I post on my blog?” and “how do I post more often?”
I have a few tips today that will help you know how frequently you should be posting and be sure to stick around next week for tips on how to start posting more frequently!
Posting frequency. That’s the big question isn’t it? While it is true that, for the most part, more posts translate to more page views, I believe it’s important to only take on what you can handle at the time. You never want to sacrifice quality for quantity. While it is possible for some people to post daily, that’s not realistic for every person or every season of life/blogging, and that’s totally okay.
Quality – Never sacrifice your post quality, just to post more. If you can’t handle adding more to your blogging plate right now, don’t stress! Instead, try to be consistent with what you are able to handle, be it two posts a week or even just one! Start by being consistent and work up from there.
Make sure you are still enjoying it – Don’t push yourself so far that you start hating your blog. I may not love blogging every minute that I work on it, but when I start not enjoying it at all, I know it’s time to back up a bit. Skip a post or ask for a guest to come blog on my site once or twice. Don’t be afraid to give yourself the breathing room you need to love your blog (at least most of the time). Blogging more frequently does bring in more page views, but if it burns you out and makes you want to quit blogging, or prevents you from reaching your long-term blogging goals, then it’s not worth it
Fitting posts – Make sure what you are putting on your blog is relevant to your blog’s audience. Posting extra content that really has nothing to do with anything that is normally found on your blog won’t usually be helpful. There are some really fantastic bloggers like Lisa Jo Baker who, although post only semi-frequently always offer fantastic content. You know exactly what to expect when you see she’s posted something and she’s always consistent with her brand. This is just as valuable as posting all the time!
Some blogs are just not meant to be updated daily! There are so many reasons that this might not be the right choice for you, so don’t ever feel like you are not keeping up with every one else because you don’t post quite as much.
The beautiful thing about blogging is that each blog is as unique and different as the blog owner! Some will choose to update daily, even multiple times a day, while others speak infrequently, but when they do share their words you know that you want to stop what you are doing to listen.
Never feel like you aren’t keeping up with every one else, just keep up with you and keep your blog on the side!

So true! I know so many bloggers that are constantly trying to compete with each other, but that just isn’t right. Some people are able to write a post more easily than others. Some are going through tough or busy seasons, and others aren’t. It’s so important to do what is best for YOU, not try to be someone else.

Lisa-Jo Baker was the perfect example. You are so right about how she always nails her voice, so you know just what to expect when you go to her blog, no matter how frequently she’s posting. I’m kind of shooting for that. 🙂

Great advice and spot on for where I am. I used to post everyday on my blog and reached a point of where it was not fun anymore. It had actually become a job. I have made the mistake a couple of times since then of trying to restart from cold with a post everyday to begin. My how I should recall how things started and how/why it was fun at the time. Thanks for helping to open my eyes to something I was starting to realize!

This post is very helpful for me and any other beginner blogger. How often should I blog is a question that is currently haunting me, but after reading this post I’m comfortable with posting only once or twice a week. I just started my blog on yesterday July 3, 2014 so every bit of advice helps me. Also I’m a true believer of quality material over quantity….very good tip.
Thanks Paula
