How to Create a Facebook Fan Page for Your Blog

I thought it would be helpful to show you exactly how to create a facebook fan page! I’m a very visual learner, so I’ve created this post for all the other visual-learners out there, with screenshots from when I created the Facebook fan page for blogging on the side. — If you are wondering WHY your blog needs a Facebook page you can find out here.

How to create a facebook fanpage for your blog

First, log in to your personal Facebook account. Don’t get distracted by cute babies or wedding announcements (one of the harder parts of this tutorial). Stay with me…

Click the ‘like pages’ option in the side bar to the left (or you can type in facebook.com/pages)

Login to facebook

Next, click the green ‘create new page’ button, this will take you to a screen showing you all the different category options for your page, and you will be prompted to select one.

Create Facebook Page

If you are making a blog fan page I suggest choosing the “community” page option, when given the choice between different categories.ย Create a community on facebook

Once you’ve selected the category your page falls under, you are ready to start inputting the information about your fanpage! From here on out you can get as personal as you would like! I definitely suggest having your blog address on the front page of your FB page, that way no one has to do any extra clicking to find your blog address. You can do this by including the link as part of the short description on your page. If the link isn’t there, just click the description and it will take you to the edit page and allow you to input it there.

And there you have it! Your page is all created, and you can start inviting your friends and followers to follow along! Send out a status update to all your friends, suggesting that they like @yourpage and invite them personally from your page’s dashboard.

Now are you wondering what to post? Be sure to check out our post on how to make the most of your facebook page to read all our tips and tricks for running a successful page!

How timely! I just created a page for my blog, but I’m terrible at inviting people to “like” me, I mean, my page. =D Well, I have 6 likes; a start! =D

Hello, Thank you for your tips! I have a question; when you set up a Facebook page, do you have to launch it immediately or you can work on it prior to launch?

I believe that it launches immediately, but you may be able to hide it until you are ready. I usually don’t bother with hiding it though, I just don’t invite people to “like” the page until I’ve gotten it all fixed up. People usually won’t just run across it without you telling them that it is there, so you don’t have to worry too much about people “liking” it before it is ready.

Silly me!!! I’m so laughing at me right now! You are right, if I don’t publicize it, who will know? ๐Ÿ˜€ Thank you for your answer!

Hi there. I am going to continue reading on to your next post, so forgive me if you answer my question there. Question: Can I keep my fan page separate from my personal fb page? I only want the later to be for friends and family.

Yes a fan page is separate from your personal profile. The page will be completely public, while your personal profile can stay as private as you would like. ๐Ÿ™‚ I only have friends and family as “friends” on my profile, while has have thousands of fans on my page! They are different things, though they will both be easily accesable to you from your home screen on facebook.
