Today we’re interviewing Sarah and featuring her blog. If you’d like to be interviewed and featured on Friday, email us and let us know! Onthesideblogging@gmail.com
I am a stay-at-home mom who likes to write about all sorts of things at www.abidingingraceblog.com. Mostly, I like to share what God is teaching me in my everyday life. Some of my passions include motherhood, home schooling, books, and music. One of my newest passions is adoption. We are currently going through the process of adopting a little girl from China. We are in the midst of paperwork and waiting. We are so excited to be on this journey.
What are your top 3 blogging goals? and how are you striving to reach them?
One of my top blogging goals is simple: just write. I have always wanted to be a writer and to be a better writer you have to write! I am currently reading books about writing and have joined the COMPEL training – which provides help for aspiring writers. My second blogging goal is to blog 3 times a week. Although my previous goal was to blog once a week, I wanted to push myself to write more. I have had to be more organized and plan ahead. My third blogging goal is to connect. As a stay-at-home mom, I was having a hard time finding “community.” So, I started writing and connecting more through my blog. I have found such a great support group out there – especially when it comes to connecting with people about our adoption.
What is your blogging niche? Do you think it is important for bloggers to keep to one or two topics, or do you think it is okay for one person to cover multiple categories on one blog? Why?
Originally I pictured my blog to be short devotionals about whatever I was reading at the time. It has morphed into more of a motherhood/encouragement and adoption blog. Although I used to believe that bloggers should keep to one or two topics, I find that some of my favorite bloggers are now those that share about all kinds of things! Although I like to share about a lot of different things, I have tried to keep my blog mostly about my two passions: devotionals and adoption. Of course, you will see an occasional recipe on there from me as well! Bloggers need to share what they are passionate about. If someone is excited about sewing, movies, and music – they need to share about all of those. It is important that you write about what you know, or are learning. You do not NEED to write about all sorts of things, only what you are interested in.
Share a link to your favorite post you’ve ever written. Why is it your favorite?
One of my favorite posts is “Little Pearls“. Motherhood is a day-to-day struggle for me. I love my job, but sometimes I wonder if I’m making any progress whatsoever. Laundry always piles up. Dishes never stay clean. Crumbs are a constant on my floors. My children need fed (everyday). It seems as if (I) mothers lose sight of what the mundane things mean over time. I needed the message of this post more than anyone. I want my life to make a difference – like so many people do. Instead of seeing one BIG accomplishment, I see all the little things along the way – and how God is pleased with faithfulness, not big acts of greatness. Being a faithful mother is more important than writing a best-seller or earning a lot of money.
